When invading aliens propose to decide Earth's fate with a game of tag, Ataru Moroboshi, Tomobiki High's most shameless letch, is picked as humanity's reluctant champion. Hoping to catch the fast, mischievous Lum, daughter of the oni chief, Ataru rashly promises to marry her if he wins, and pulls off the win by a hair. Lum takes the promise at face value and moves in as his self-declared fiancée that very night, to the bewilderment of his ex-girlfriend Shinobu. Caught between his old love life and this electrifying new arrival, Ataru finds himself literally between a rock and a hard place, unable to wriggle out of the misunderstanding that just upended the whole planet.
