The author: Rumiko Takahashi

Rumiko Takahashi was born on May 10, 1957 in Niigata, Japan. She made her professional debut in 1978 with Urusei Yatsura, serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine, which immediately established her as a major manga author.

The success of Urusei Yatsura, which totals 34 volumes, established her lasting style: a blend of romantic comedy, fantasy and Japanese folklore, carried by a colorful cast of alien characters led by Lum.

She went on to create other series that have become cult classics, including Maison Ikkoku, Ranma ½, Inuyasha, Rinne and Mao, making her one of the most prolific and best-selling manga artists in the world.

In 2020, she became the first woman to receive the Grand Prix of the Angoulême International Comics Festival, an international recognition of a career spanning more than four decades in manga.
